Defeats for Biden Keep Piling Up

Despite his stated intention to seek another term as president, Joe Biden is struggling to hold on to his position within the Democratic Party.

In the District of Columbia, a law that would have removed or significantly reduced penalties for violent crimes is set to be rejected by Congress, which would mark the first time in 30 years that the city has been overruled by the legislature. Despite his opposition to the legislation, many House Democrats joined the Republican effort to overturn it, and Biden now says he would not veto the bill.

In addition, Biden is facing other issues from his own party. Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia joined the Republican effort to undo a rule that would allow retirement plans to consider various factors such as social, environmental, and corporate governance. Biden has already promised to veto the bill. More Democrats also joined the Republican effort to pass a measure that would force the administration to provide inflation estimates on executive orders.

Although it is not yet clear how the Supreme Court will rule on his student loan amnesty plan, Biden is facing a possible loss. The administration has admitted that it does not have a backup plan in place to fulfill his campaign promise. If the court upholds the plan correctly, it will result in another loss for Biden, who was forced to bypass Congress in order to carry out his promise.

In 2024, Biden only has two grand wins that he can claim. One of these is the infrastructure bill he signed into law, which was heavily favored by Democrats before the 2022 midterm elections. However, it has been overshadowed by his failure to address the Ohio ecological disaster and his bizarre handling of the inflation reduction act, which was a climate change bill that was actually designed to make inflation worse.

With a divided Congress, Biden is not likely to get more victories. He is still calling for an assault weapons ban, which will not be able to pass. He has also been left to face off against Georgia Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene.

Despite his various achievements, Biden's approval rating has dropped to around 43%. He was unable to recover from his mishandling of the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan, which led to the deaths of 13 American soldiers. The border crisis also became out of control, as the Biden administration inadvertently gave the green light to the rise of MS-13 gangs.

Even with a divided Congress, Biden is still struggling to get re-elected. His presidency has been full of mistakes, and even with a narrow majority, he is forced to either veto or surrender legislation. Democrats are hoping that they can get rid of him as their 2024 nominee, and Biden is currently presenting his reasons for why he should be replaced.
