Hunter became distrustful of Schwerin due to his close ties with the family. Their relationship started to deteriorate in 2018, with Hunter labeling him as his enemy. In 2019, they started working on a plan to get rid of him.
Peter Schwerin, Joe Biden's relative, is a powerful businessman in the family business, and he used to work with Hunter and his company Rosemont Seneca Partners. He also served as a White House guest lister.
Due to his close ties with the Biden family, Schwerin is expected to provide House investigators with documents related to the former's business. The nature of his relationship with Hunter has caused the two to become strained.
According to a report by conservative news outlet, the Breitbart News, in 2019, Hunter Biden planned to have a secret affair with Eric Schwerin, the family's financial officer.
On Air Force Two, Jeff Cooper, who is a friend of the Bidens, traveled to Mexico to meet with some of its business leaders. He knew Joe Biden's son Hunter through his previous work with Eudora Global. In 2020, another member of the family, Archer, was sent to prison after he was convicted of fraud.
Hunter proposed to Cooper and Archer that they split Schwerin's business deal into three parts. He noted that he could remove him from the project if he did not have documents.
Hunter then proposed that Schwerin be replaced by someone else. He would then use his position to recover his money from other companies.
Before trying to remove Schwerin from the deal, Hunter told his associates that he did not trust him. He also said he did not approve of his abilities as a businessman.
In an email to his assistant, Schwerin was referred to as Hunter's "worst enemy." Hunter was also upset because he had been owing Schwerin a huge sum of money. The exchange was triggered by his frustration with his continued association with the Biden family business.

Due to the failure of Schwerin to deliver his piece of the business, Hunter had been owing him around 30% of his income. During a meeting with Kathleen, Hunter blamed Schwerin and said that the inaccurate tax bill that he had submitted was due to the latter's failure.
Hunter claimed that he has not filed his tax returns yet.
In another email, Hunter accused Schwerin of causing him a huge tax bill. He also told Hallie Biden, the widow of Joe Biden, that he was struggling financially even though her husband was running for president.
I have alienated many of my friends and family due to my decision to distance myself from them. I am currently struggling with a financial situation that has caused me to feel alone. Some of the issues that have affected me include the kidnapping and possible assassination of one of my brothers, the arrest of one of my business partners, the tax bill and the retaliation against those who worked with the CIA.
Hunter also berated Schwerin in private messages, including one sent to Andrew Schwartz, a staff member of the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
Schwartz told Hunter that, following their lunch together on November 30, 2018, he would be relying on him. He also noted that he would begin reaching out to the people close to his dad.
In the message sent to Schwartz, Hunter called Schwerin a "fuck." He also threatened to hurt him in any way he wanted.
The tension between Hunter and Schwerin became evident in February when the House Committee on Oversight asked for documents related to the former's business partnership with James Biden and Schwerin. Despite his refusal to cooperate, Schwerin agreed to provide the committee with the necessary documents.
Hunter and James Biden sent letters to the US House Oversight Committee, asking for information related to the investigation regarding Schwerin. A spokesperson for this committee noted that they were currently in talks with his attorney.
On Wednesday, Hunter Biden and Schwerin were given the deadline to provide the Committee with the documents it had been asking for.
Hunter is the son of former Vice President Joe Biden. The House Committee also requested records related to his father.
The committee also requested records related to his business activities with various companies, such as China Energy Company.
James Biden listed various companies and entities in his letters to the House Committee. Some of these include Catherine Dodge, Lion Hall Group, Robert Walker, and Devon Archer.
As the committee continues its investigation regarding the Biden family, it's not clear exactly what information Schwerin could provide it.
The committee's investigations have been largely impeded by Hunter and Timothy Thigault, who was an FBI point man. Their actions prevented the committee from examining Hunter's computer, which is reportedly unrelated to the criminal probe regarding the son of the president.
In his two books, which were released in 2018 and 2020, Schwerin revealed how Joe Biden and his son, Hunter, used their positions to benefit themselves. Before they signed a deal with a Chinese bank, Schwerin had revealed how these two men used their position to get a huge advantage.
Through his work, Schweizer was able to uncover the corruption of the Biden family.
Political editor Emma-Jo Morris of the New York Post revealed how Joe Biden heavily participated in his son's business ventures. She and her colleague Miranda Devine also reported that he had a 10% ownership stake in a company that was established by Hunter with high-level Chinese government officials.
