The Biden administration tried to interfere with the electoral process once again on Monday. It announced that the DHS would be awarding millions of dollars in grants to local governments to provide election security.
In a press release, the DHS announced that it plans to provide over $2 billion in funding for various programs designed to help local, state, and territorial authorities prepare for and respond to terrorist activities. Under Joe Biden's presidency, the agency has been focused on combating domestic violent extremism.
These proclamations are not referring to the violence carried out by left-wing groups such as Black Lives Matter or the anti-fascist movement known as Antifa. Instead, they are focused on right-wing organizations and individuals who threaten the regime's policies and narratives.
The press release also included a list of six national priority areas for the 2023 grants. One of these is election security. Under the directive, all grant recipients are required to spend a portion of their funds on this program. This is an unusual method of funding elections, and even the Bipartisan Policy Center noted that it has never been done before.
Although the DHS doesn't provide a clear definition of what election security is, a report released by the agency states that the program aims to help local governments develop effective strategies and procedures to protect their elections. The report also highlighted several potential projects that the local election offices could use to improve their security. Some of these include implementing multiple security measures such as alarms and locks.
According to DHS Secretary Mayorkas, the grants will primarily be used to support local governments in areas where voters tend to support Democrats. This is similar to how Mark Zuckerberg and other political groups were able to influence the elections through their private funding.
The agency is also expanding its reach by adding several urban areas to the list of grant recipients. These include Austin, Texas; Hawaii; Nashville, Tennessee; and Jacksonville, Florida. With this, the number of urban areas that the DHS is supporting now stands at 40.
The directive is the latest example of how the Biden administration is trying to interfere with the electoral process. In March 2021, he issued an executive order requiring all federal agencies to expand the opportunities for citizens to register to vote and obtain information about the voting process. If the past is any indication, these efforts will most likely be concentrated in areas where voters tend to support Democrats.
The Department of Justice's Civil Rights Division sent its attorneys to monitor the voting process in several counties on Election Day. They were tasked with ensuring that the locations where people voted were in compliance with the law. Among the areas they targeted were counties that were heavily Democratic.
The Department of Justice's (DOJ) announcement about the ban on intimidation of voters came just as legacy media outlets were reporting stories about how Republican poll watchers were planning on disrupting local election offices on Election Day. Unfortunately, these stories were never true.
