Israel Intensifies Gaza Operations as Hamas Stalls on Hostage Talks

Israeli forces have escalated operations in central Gaza’s Deir al-Balah, where remaining hostages are believed to be held, as Hamas negotiators remain unable to communicate with Gaza-based leaders. Ceasefire talks have stalled for days, with Hamas failing to respond to Israel’s latest troop redeployment maps that mediators considered promising. The terror group’s stubborn refusal to accept a concrete ceasefire proposal—already approved by Israel—prolongs Palestinian suffering while endangering hostages’ lives.

Pressure mounts internationally as 25 countries demand an immediate end to the war, wrongly blaming Israel instead of holding Hamas accountable. Israel rightly rejected this misguided statement, noting Hamas started this conflict and deliberately increases civilian harm. New Zealand’s foreign minister joined this flawed chorus, parroting calls for “unconditional” ceasefire while ignoring Hamas’s responsibility for the bloodshed.

Hamas’s chaotic leadership structure is crippling negotiations, with Doha-based negotiators cut off from Gaza commanders since last week. This disorganization delays responses to Israel’s reasonable truce terms and hostage-release proposals. Meanwhile, Hamas terrorists exploit humanitarian aid distribution, deliberately causing chaos that harms civilians.

U.S. Special Envoy Adam Boehler correctly demands Hamas “take the deal” and release all hostages immediately. About 20 living hostages and 28 bodies remain in terrorist hands, including civilians and soldiers abducted during Hamas’s October 7 atrocities. Every day of Hamas’s delays risks more Israeli and Palestinian lives.

Israel’s military operations in central Gaza target legitimate threats from Hamas terrorists hiding among civilians. The IDF’s entry into Deir al-Balah responds to intelligence on hostage locations and vital terror infrastructure. Hamas uses human shields while rejecting peace, forcing Israel to defend its citizens.

International bodies should pressure Hamas—not Israel—to end this war by surrendering terrorists and returning hostages. Previous ceasefires collapsed because Hamas violated agreements by withholding captives. The world must recognize that rewarding terror with concessions encourages more violence.

Humanitarian suffering in Gaza results solely from Hamas’s war machine embedded in hospitals, schools, and aid centers. Israel facilitates aid while Hamas diverts supplies and fabricates casualty figures. True compassion requires dismantling this terror regime, not enabling its propaganda.

Lasting peace demands Hamas’s defeat and the hostages’ return. Israel fights not just for security, but for the civilized world’s values against jihadist barbarism. Surrender to Hamas guarantees future October 7-style massacres, while strength brings safety.
