Walz and Frey Under Fire as DOJ Probes Their Immigration Resistance

Conservative radio host Bob Brooks didn’t mince words Friday on Finnerty, blasting Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey as the Justice Department opens a probe into their public conduct amid the federal immigration sweep. Brooks warned that leaders who cheer resistance to federal law enforcement and play politics with public safety are heading straight for accountability.

The DOJ is reportedly investigating whether Walz and Frey conspired to impede federal immigration agents after both spoke out against the massive Department of Homeland Security operation in the Twin Cities. Federal officials say the surge — described as one of the largest in history — has resulted in thousands of arrests as agents pursue suspected illegal immigrants and alleged fraudsters.

Tensions exploded after the tragic shooting of Renee Good during an encounter with ICE personnel, giving the administration and its allies cover to pour in federal law enforcement and prompting heated protests. That incident, and the clashes that followed, have been cited by investigators as part of the backdrop to explosive federal-state relations in Minnesota.

While national security and immigration enforcement grab headlines, a separate financial scandal has exposed breathtaking fraud in state programs that were supposed to help children. The USDA has frozen more than $129 million in awards to Minnesota amid probes tied to the Feeding Our Future scandal, a multiyear scheme that federal prosecutors say siphoned off hundreds of millions meant for child nutrition.

The pattern is damning: local officials issue statements that rile federal authorities, then complain of “weaponization” when investigations follow. Walz’s public denunciations of federal probes read less like concern for constituents and more like political theater designed to deflect blame for corruption and lawlessness.

Patriots should applaud the Justice Department for finally following the facts instead of letting performative outrage shield wrongdoers. Reports of high-level resignations among prosecutors frustrated with political interference only underline how politicized and compromised local handling of these scandals has become.

Minnesota conservatives have every right to demand accountability — not just for immigration lawbreaking but for the theft of taxpayer dollars meant for the vulnerable. If left-wing leaders think slogans and virtue signals will protect them from federal scrutiny, they should think again; hardworking Americans deserve officials who secure borders, root out fraud, and defend the rule of law.

Bob Brooks put it plainly: when elected leaders place political correctness and protest ahead of enforcement and honest governance, they’re on the wrong side of history. It’s time for citizens to stand up, insist on transparency, and make sure those in power answer for the consequences of turning a blind eye to crime and corruption.
