Trump’s Bold Move: Shutting Down Education Department to Empower Parents

President Trump just took a huge step to cut the federal government down to size. He signed an executive order to start shutting down the Department of Education. Trump says the agency has failed kids for decades. He wants to send power back to states and parents where it belongs. Flanked by schoolkids and Republican governors, Trump promised this move would free schools from Washington’s control.

Democrats are throwing a fit. Elizabeth Warren claims closing the Education Department will hurt special needs kids and poor students. But conservatives say Warren’s real worry is losing cash for teacher unions. Those unions pump millions into Democrat campaigns. Trump’s order hits their gravy train hard.

The numbers don’t lie. After years of federal control, 70% of eighth graders can’t read or do math well. In cities like Chicago, only 1 in 5 high schoolers can handle grade-level math. Yet Democrats keep pushing the same failed policies. Trump’s plan lets states try new ideas without Washington’s red tape.

Shutting the whole department needs Congress to act. But Trump’s already slashed its staff by half. He’s moving programs to other agencies. The goal is to end Washington’s grip on schools. Democrats scream this is illegal, but Trump’s team says they’re following the law.

Critics whine about student loans and special ed funding. The White House says those services won’t change right away. Over time, loans and disability programs will shift to other departments. Trump wants to stop using schools to push radical gender ideology and CRT.

Blue states are panicking. They’re suing to block the order. Why? Because they rely on federal cash to fund their political projects. Chicago’s mayor cares more about union paychecks than fixing his city’s awful schools. Democrats would rather protect bureaucrats than help kids learn.

The Education Department started under Jimmy Carter as a favor to teacher unions. For 45 years, it’s grown into a swamp monster. Trump’s order sends a message – parents should run schools, not DC elites. States can now choose better books, safer classrooms, and honest history lessons.

This fight isn’t just about schools. It’s about who controls America’s future. Trump trusts moms and dads. Democrats trust union bosses. By smashing the Education Department, Trump is draining the swamp and putting kids first. The establishment hates it – which means it’s probably the right move.
