Trump Slams Minnesota Dems, Defends ICE Amid Chaos

A 37-year-old Minneapolis resident, identified as Alex Pretti, was shot and killed on January 24, 2026 during a federal immigration enforcement operation, and the scene has once again plunged the city into chaos and competing narratives. Federal officials say the Border Patrol fired after an agent perceived a deadly threat, while bystander videos and local accounts raise serious questions about what actually happened on the sidewalk outside a neighborhood business. The raw images and conflicting statements make this a raw test of trust in government and law enforcement from every level.

President Trump did not mince words, accusing Governor Tim Walz and Mayor Jacob Frey of “inciting Insurrection” with what he called pompous and dangerous rhetoric, and he defended the federal agents doing a difficult job in the city. The president framed the federal presence as part of a broader effort to recover allegedly stolen public funds and to remove violent illegal criminals, and he urged the public and officials to let ICE and Border Patrol carry out their missions. Love him or hate him, Trump’s message was simple: support the people who put their lives on the line enforcing the law or expect more disorder.

Minnesota’s Democratic leaders, for their part, have been quick to condemn the federal operation and demand federal agents leave, calling the deployments a “federal occupation” and insisting on state-led investigations. Governor Walz said the state would keep a log of evidence and voiced outrage at federal interference, while the city’s mayor echoed calls for accountability amid growing protests. Such theatrics from soft-on-crime politicians do not calm cities; they embolden mobs and weaken the people who keep our streets safe.

Conservatives should be blunt: attacking the very agents who are trying to stem the flow of criminality at the border and in our cities is irresponsible and dangerous. We owe law enforcement the presumption of support while demanding transparent, professional investigations — not political finger-pointing that fuels unrest. Federal ICE and Border Patrol officers are being asked to operate in hostile environments, and they deserve clear rules of engagement, robust backing, and the benefit of due process when incidents occur.

At the same time, the available footage and eyewitness accounts cannot be ignored; video widely shared online shows a chaotic confrontation that many say does not match the initial federal account. Americans have a right to a full, independent examination of the facts, and that means cooperation between federal investigators and state authorities — not blockades or stonewalling that breed suspicion. If federal agents acted lawfully, let the record show it; if they did not, they must face consequences under the law.

This episode is also a sobering reminder of national stakes: open-border policies and weak enforcement invite chaos into cities that already struggle with crime. Conservatives argue that the solution is not hollow virtue-signaling but real policy: secure the border, back law enforcement, and stop sending mixed messages that encourage defiance. President Trump’s rallying cry to “LET OUR ICE PATRIOTS DO THEIR JOB” reflects a basic principle — a nation without borders and without enforcement is not a nation.

What Americans should demand now is simple and patriotic: transparency, accountability, and order. Prosecutors and investigators must move swiftly and fairly, elected officials should stop inflaming passions for political gain, and every citizen should insist that peaceful protest never be a cover for violence or lawlessness. Protect the truth, protect our communities, and make sure those who break the law — whether on the streets or in government — are held to account.

As crowds gathered, tear gas and other tactics were used and the Minnesota National Guard was activated to help stabilize the situation, underscoring how quickly local unrest can threaten wider peace. This is a moment for sober leadership, not grandstanding: stand with the rule of law, demand the facts, and reject the politics of division that leave hardworking Americans to pick up the pieces. Our republic depends on leaders who protect citizens and restore order — not those who fan the flames.
