Trump and Musk Slash Spending, Critics Left Reeling

President Trump and Elon Musk are making big moves to cut government spending, but not everyone is happy about it. Fox News host Jesse Watters praised the effort to shrink the federal workforce but recently begged Trump to save his friend Chris, a military veteran facing layoffs at the Pentagon. Watters argued veterans shouldn’t lose jobs while “woke” DEI consultants stay.

The DOGE team, led by Musk, has already cut thousands of federal jobs and targeted agencies like USAID. Trump called these cuts necessary to stop “waste and corruption.” But even supporters like Watters are feeling the heat. His sister works at Johns Hopkins University, which lost federal grants, leaving his mom upset. Watters joked about family drama but still backed the cuts.

Conservatives say public media like NPR and PBS are next. Trump called them “very biased” and vowed to pull their $535 million in federal funding. GOP leaders agree, saying taxpayers shouldn’t fund “left-wing propaganda.” PBS and NPR get most money from donations, but smaller stations rely on government cash.

Elon Musk’s “chainsaw” approach has frozen foreign aid, halted science projects, and shut down offices. Critics call it reckless, but Trump says Musk is “doing a great job” exposing fraud. Judges have blocked some cuts, like at USAID, but the DOGE crew keeps pushing.

Watters isn’t the only one with mixed feelings. Some Republicans worry cutting too deep hurts national security. For example, layoffs hit experts tracking bird flu and managing nuclear weapons. But Trump insists popular programs like Social Security won’t be touched.

The fight over NPR and PBS funding heats up this week. House Republicans brought their CEOs to Congress, accusing them of pushing “liberal disinformation.” PBS fans argue shows like Sesame Street help kids, but Musk says public media should survive without tax dollars.

Democrats and unions are fighting DOGE in court, calling it unconstitutional. They say Musk has no authority to slash jobs or close agencies. But Trump’s allies say Congress failed to cut waste, so Musk’s team is doing the dirty work.

While the cuts cause pain, conservatives argue they’re needed to save America from bankruptcy. Watters admitted it’s tough when friends get “DOGE’d” but said trimming woke projects and foreign aid is worth the cost. For now, the chainsaw keeps buzzing.
