Another tragic school shooting has rocked America, this time at a Catholic school in Minneapolis. Two innocent children, ages 8 and 10, lost their lives when a deranged gunman opened fire during morning Mass on Wednesday. Seventeen others were wounded in this senseless attack on our most vulnerable.
The shooter has been identified as Robin Westman, a 23-year-old who was born Robert Westman. This individual legally changed names in 2020 to reflect a female identity. The shooter took their own life at the scene after terrorizing children and elderly parishioners.
This attack happened during the first week of school at Annunciation Catholic School. Children were sitting peacefully in church pews when bullets came crashing through the windows. Three elderly parishioners in their 80s were also shot while attending Mass.
Law enforcement reports indicate the shooter recently went through a breakup before this deadly rampage. Once again, we see how personal problems and mental instability can lead to devastating violence against innocent Americans. Our children deserve better protection than this.
The victims were doing nothing wrong except attending church and starting their school year. These were good families raising their kids with faith and values. Now two precious lives are gone forever because of one disturbed person’s actions.
This shooting highlights the ongoing crisis of violence plaguing our schools and churches. Despite all the gun control laws already on the books, criminals and mentally unstable people still find ways to hurt others. More laws won’t stop evil people from doing evil things.
Our hearts go out to the families who lost their beautiful children. The Minneapolis community is grieving, and every parent in America feels this pain. These families will never be the same after this horrible tragedy.
We must focus on protecting our kids through better security and addressing mental health issues. Prayer and support for these families matter more than political talking points right now. May God comfort those who are suffering and heal our broken nation.
