Texas Democrats have once again shown their true colors by running away from their jobs like spoiled children. More than 50 Democratic lawmakers fled the state over the weekend to block a perfectly legal redistricting vote. These cowards abandoned the people who elected them and are now hiding in liberal strongholds like New York and Chicago.
Governor Greg Abbott is absolutely right to call out this rich hypocrisy from the left. These same Democrats who constantly scream about threats to democracy are the ones actually undermining it by refusing to do their basic job. They took an oath to serve Texas, not to throw tantrums when they don’t get their way.
The redistricting plan would give Republicans five additional House seats, which is exactly what should happen after the GOP’s massive wins in Texas. Republicans earned the right to redraw these maps through the democratic process, but Democrats can’t accept that voters rejected their failed agenda. Instead of working within the system, they’re acting like petulant toddlers.
Abbott has ordered the Texas Department of Public Safety to locate and arrest these runaway legislators, and he’s exploring removing them from office entirely. Every hardworking Texan should support these tough measures because taxpayers shouldn’t fund politicians who refuse to show up for work. These Democrats are stealing their paychecks while abandoning their duties.
The fleeing Democrats claim this is about protecting minority voters, but that’s just typical leftist race-baiting nonsense. This is really about power and their desperate attempt to keep seats they’re about to lose fair and square. They know their radical policies have failed, so they’re resorting to cheap tricks instead of facing the music.
What makes this even more disgusting is that these Democrats are getting help from other liberal states like New York. Governor Kathy Hochul is rolling out the red carpet for these Texas quitters, proving this is really a coordinated attack on Texas by the radical left. They want to punish our state for staying red while the rest of the country suffers under Democratic policies.
Republicans have every legal right to redraw congressional maps, especially after winning big in the last election. The Constitution gives states this power, and Texas Republicans are simply exercising it responsibly. Meanwhile, Democrats are the ones actually threatening democracy by refusing to participate in the legal process.
Governor Abbott should keep fighting these runaway Democrats with everything he’s got. Real Texans are sick of politicians who only want to work when they’re winning. If these cowards don’t want to do their jobs, then they should resign and let patriots who actually care about Texas take their place.
