Targets on Our Streets: Afghan National’s Attack on US Guards Raises Alarm

On November 26, two National Guard members were ambushed and shot just blocks from the White House, leaving both troops in critical condition and the city on edge. This was not a random mugging; it was a targeted attack against American servicemen performing their duty in our capital.

Authorities say the suspect is an Afghan national who came to the United States in 2021 under the Biden-era resettlement program, a fact that raises serious questions about vetting and national-security judgement. For hardworking Americans watching their sons and daughters stand in harm’s way, the idea that a person admitted under Operation Allies Welcome could be implicated in such an attack is intolerable.

President Trump addressed the nation from Palm Beach and rightly called the shooting an act of terror, using the moment to demand a thorough reassessment of Afghan admissions during the previous administration. He also demanded immediate action to protect our troops and to hold irresponsible policies to account, a leadership response the country desperately needs in times like this.

At the president’s request, Defense Department officials moved to send another 500 National Guard troops to Washington, a common-sense step to secure our capital and deter further attacks. Critics who sued to remove those troops would do well to explain how leaving our streets less secure makes Americans safer; a recent federal judge even paused an order to withdraw the guards, underscoring the administration’s legal fight to keep the city protected.

This incident should be a wake-up call to every lawmaker and bureaucrat who treated border security and refugee vetting as secondary concerns. It’s time to stop soft-soaping danger and to start enforcing strict vetting, immediate reviews of suspect admissions, and honest accountability for the policies that put American lives at risk. No more platitudes; real men and women in uniform are being endangered on our streets.

Prayers and support go to the wounded West Virginia National Guard members and their families, and every patriot should demand justice and better protections for our forces. We owe these troops full backing from the White House, Congress, and the American people — and we must never allow failed policies to be a repeat headline.
