In response to the rising cost of living, California is currently issuing direct payments to its residents. These payments are expected to reach around $1,050.
The Middle Class Tax Refund is being sent out to California residents. The last batch of payments, which will include state-issued debit cards and direct deposits, will be made next month.
The exact amount of the payment that each resident will receive varies depending on their income and the number of dependent children they have.
Individuals who file individual income tax returns with income between $125,000 and $250,000 will receive $200. On the other hand, those who make less than $150,000 and have dependent children receive $1,050.
To be eligible, individuals must have lived in California for at least six months in the 2020 tax year. They must also have filed their taxes by October 15, 2021. For couples filing a joint return, the income requirement is less than $500,000.
Those who were deemed to be dependent for tax purposes in 2020 are not eligible for this program. The state noted that all direct payments will be made by January 2023.
Cities and states are also trying to address the rising cost of living by implementing various measures. These include providing direct payments to help their residents.
