A decision has been reached by the jury that was deliberating the fate of the Parkland shooter.
On Thursday, the organization made the announcement that they had reached a consensus over the sentencing of the individual who was found guilty of shooting 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in 2018.
After only 15 minutes of deliberation on their second day, they were able to reach a consensus. The jury consisted of 12 individuals, all of whom agreed that Nikolas Cruz should be given a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole. The prosecution requested that the defendant be sentenced to death. The prosecution asked for a sentence of life in prison.
The verdict has caused distress for many of the families of the 17 people who were killed. The father of victim Alex Schachter, who is 14, took to Twitter to express his feelings.

Following the announcement, Lori Alhadeff, the mother of 14-year-old victim Alyssa Alhadeff, expressed what was going through her mind.
She expressed her extreme dissatisfaction with the day's events by saying, We are beyond dissatisfied. There is no question that this person should have been executed.
The recommendation for the death penalty came from the jury with a 9-3 vote, according to Governor Ron DeSantis (R-Florida). The judgment of the jury must have been reached by a unanimous vote in order for Cruz to be given the death penalty.
