Russia Attacks Civilian Targets And Damages The German Consulate In Kyiv

Multiple sources say a Russian missile hit the German consulate in Kyiv.

Russia's first nationwide missile barrage in months indicates a significant escalation in the war in retribution for Ukraine's suspected damage of the bridge between Russia and seized Crimea Saturday. Russia's hours-long attack destroyed Ukraine's infrastructure and civilian targets.

German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht said  “Russia’s attacks with missiles and drones terrorize the civilian population in particular.”

Reuters claimed that Germany's defense ministry offered to hasten air defense system transfers to Ukraine. The foreign office said the consular office has been closed since February.

“The renewed missile fire on Kyiv and the many other cities show how important it is to supply Ukraine with air defence systems quickly,” Lambrecht added, according to Reuters.

Russia's hours-long bombardment Monday damaged Ukrainian infrastructure and civilian targets, the AP reported. Nine dead and 60 injured.

Putin claimed his military unleashed "precision weapons" from air, land, and sea bases against military and critical infrastructure targets at a meeting of the Security Council Monday, the largest bombing campaign in months, the AP reported.

Most strikes impacted residential areas and power plants in 10 cities, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated. According to Ukraine's General Staff, air defense neutralized 41 of 75 fired missiles.

Kyiv Mayor Wladimir Klitschko said local authorities shut off power to several regions of the city while repairing power generation and water facilities, portending winter hardships for Ukraine.

Zelenskyy told the AP that the Russians chose the time and targets to cause the most damage.

The Kerch bridge explosion on Saturday cratered the major roadway and interrupted Russian supply lines into Ukraine, the AP said.

The Russian Federation Investigative Committee confirmed a truck bomb caused the Kerch bridge explosion. Security Council deputy chairman Dmitry Medvedev called the incident "a terrorist act and sabotage"

Putin promised a "tough" and "proportionate" retaliation to any more Ukrainian strikes, the AP said. The attack was "masterminded" by Ukrainian special troops.
