According to McCarthy, the information regarding the Chinese program for developing bioweapons came from the House Intelligence Committee. He noted that the committee will be releasing more details about the investigation in the next Congress. He also said that the Chinese intel community downplayed the incident that could have led to this issue.
In 2020, according to McCarthy, Dr. Anthony Fauci told him that people should avoid wearing masks and not to believe that the virus came from a lab in China. Despite there being evidence suggesting that the virus came from a different source, Fauci still refused to link the incident to the Chinese lab.
As the House minority leader, McCarthy stated that he will lead an investigation into the alleged link between the Chinese government and the development of bioweapons. He is also trying to become the next House speaker.
