Pam Bondi Promises Justice for Ambush of US Troops on Home Soil

Pam Bondi’s appearance on Hannity was a welcome dose of straight talk for every American tired of Washington excuses. She vowed to keep our streets and our service members safe and rightly pointed to the failures that allowed threats to fester over the last four years. Her resolve to use every tool of the Justice Department to protect citizens is exactly the kind of leadership we elected to restore law and order.

The brutal ambush of two West Virginia National Guard members near Farragut West on November 26 shocked the nation and proved how real the danger is when bad policies leave openings for violent actors. One young soldier, Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, died, and another, Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe, was gravely wounded after a lone attacker allegedly opened fire in an ambush-style attack. The suspect has been identified as Rahmanullah Lakanwal, an Afghan national who came to the U.S. under a resettlement program and is now facing serious murder and firearms charges.

Attorney General Bondi’s vow that the Department of Justice will pursue the harshest penalties available is both necessary and patriotic; when our troops are targeted on American soil, justice must be swift and unflinching. Bondi has signaled the DOJ will consider the death penalty and pursue terrorism enhancements if warranted, showing that this administration will not treat attacks on our military as mere statistics. Americans expect the Justice Department to stand squarely with law enforcement and with our uniformed citizens, not apologize for protecting them.

Let’s be honest about why this happened: lax vetting and naïve migration policies left gaps that had to be closed. Reports indicate the suspect arrived here through a resettlement program after working with Afghan units, and that reality has forced a national reckoning about who we admit and how closely we scrutinize those who enter our country. Conservatives who warned that open-door immigration without rigorous vetting would invite danger were proven right, and now the hard work of fixing it must be done without apology.

President Trump and his team, with Pam Bondi leading Justice, have moved decisively to tighten immigration reviews and refocus federal resources on crime and terror threats, and that hard line should be applauded by every patriot. We should not tolerate half-measures or endless hearings while our children and soldiers face real risk; bold action is needed to secure our borders, vet entrants properly, and fund law enforcement so they can do their jobs. If the past four years taught us anything, it’s that weakness invites violence—strength and resolve prevent it.

This moment calls for unity behind our troops and clarity in our policies: prosecute the guilty, tighten the gates, and restore respect for the rule of law. Pam Bondi’s promise to make America safe again is more than campaign rhetoric; it is a pledge to every hardworking American who deserves to walk the streets without fear and to the mothers and fathers who send their sons and daughters into service. Hard times demand tough choices, and the choice is simple—protect America, honor our troops, and hold those who harmed them fully accountable.
