Another week, another NFL player in handcuffs. Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Denzel Perryman got himself arrested on a felony weapons charge just as training camp was heating up. This is exactly the kind of stupidity that gives professional sports a bad name.
Perryman was booked into jail on a Friday night like some common criminal. The 32-year-old veteran should know better by now. Instead of focusing on football and being a role model, he’s facing serious legal trouble that could destroy his career.
But wait, there’s more bad news from the NFL. Houston Texans safety Jimmie Ward managed to get arrested twice in just two months. His first arrest was for allegedly assaulting and threatening a woman. His second arrest came on another felony warrant.
These players make millions of dollars to play a game most Americans love. Yet they throw it all away with reckless, criminal behavior. Hard-working families pay good money to watch these games and buy team merchandise.
The rot goes deeper than just the pros. Auburn freshman tight end Hollis Davidson got busted with marijuana and a THC vape pen. This kid was supposed to be the future of college football. Instead, he’s facing felony drug charges and got kicked off the team.
Meanwhile, former NFL running back LeShon Johnson was convicted on six felony counts for running a dogfighting operation. This sicko bred pit bulls specifically to fight and suffer. He made money off animal cruelty while decent Americans work honest jobs to pay their bills.
These athletes have every advantage in life. They get free college educations, million-dollar contracts, and endless opportunities. Yet they choose to break the law and disrespect the very fans who make their success possible.
It’s time for real consequences. Teams need to cut these criminals immediately and stop making excuses. American families deserve better role models than thugs who think they’re above the law.
