California Governor Gavin Newsom just showed his true colors with a shocking power grab. He wants to throw out California’s fair redistricting rules to help Democrats steal more seats in Congress. This is the same guy who always lectures Republicans about protecting democracy.
Newsom is rushing to hold a special election on November 4th to let voters approve new congressional maps. He wants to bypass the state’s independent redistricting commission that was created to stop exactly this kind of political cheating. Both Democrats and Republicans in California are worried about throwing out these important safeguards.
The whole scheme is Newsom’s response to Texas possibly redrawing their own maps. But here’s the problem – Newsom is doing exactly what he accuses Republicans of doing. He’s trying to rig the system to grab more power for his party.
Republicans currently hold just a tiny majority in the House with 219 seats compared to Democrats’ 212. Newsom knows that flipping just a few seats could hand total control back to Nancy Pelosi and her radical agenda. That’s what this is really about – raw political power.
The plan would target five Republican seats in California according to inside sources. Newsom claims he’s fighting Trump’s efforts to steal elections, but he’s the one actually trying to steal them. The hypocrisy is breathtaking even for a California liberal.
What makes this even worse is that Newsom wants to keep doing this kind of mid-decade redistricting through 2030. He’s basically admitting that Democrats can’t win fair elections anymore. They need to change the rules to stay in power.
California already has one of the most liberal congressional delegations in America. Now Newsom wants to make it even more extreme by eliminating moderate Republican voices. This isn’t about fairness – it’s about creating a one-party state.
American voters need to see through this desperate scheme. When politicians start changing election rules in the middle of the game, you know they’re losing. Newsom’s redistricting plan is a direct attack on fair representation and the will of the people.
