Border Patrol agents made arrests outside Governor Gavin Newsom’s press conference in Los Angeles on Thursday. The operation happened while Newsom was announcing plans for a special election about redrawing voting maps. At least one illegal immigrant was caught and detained during the routine patrol.
Newsom immediately threw a tantrum about the arrests. He called the Border Patrol operation sick and pathetic. The California governor accused President Trump of authoritarian behavior for simply enforcing immigration law.
Border Patrol Chief Gregory Bovino explained that agents were conducting normal roving patrols in downtown Los Angeles. He said breaking the law is not coincidental and that law enforcement will do their job. The chief noted that Border Patrol has been patrolling this area for over two months.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass also complained about the federal agents doing their jobs. She called the operation a provocative act and blamed federal agents for causing disorder. Bass showed up at previous immigration raids to interfere with law enforcement operations.
Acting U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli fired back at the California politicians on social media. He reminded them that no person or state is above federal law. Essayli made it clear that federal agents will operate anywhere and anytime within the United States.
The Trump administration has been cracking down on illegal immigrants with criminal records throughout Los Angeles. Homeland Security officials say they have over 40 teams on the ground working to make LA safe. These operations are about enforcing the law, not about political games.
California Democrats continue to obstruct immigration enforcement while crime runs wild in their cities. They call themselves a sanctuary state but federal law still applies everywhere. Their whining about Border Patrol arrests shows they care more about protecting criminals than American citizens.
This showdown proves that President Trump means business about securing our borders and removing dangerous criminals. While Newsom cries about authoritarianism, real Americans applaud law enforcement for doing what California refuses to do. The federal government will not let liberal politicians block immigration enforcement any longer.
