Mental Health Crisis Ignored as Gunman Attacks Minneapolis School

A deranged gunman opened fire at a Minneapolis Catholic school this week, killing two innocent children and wounding 18 others in another senseless attack on our nation’s kids. The shooter, 23-year-old Robin Westman, targeted Annunciation Catholic School during a morning Mass that was supposed to celebrate the start of a new school year. Instead of joy and learning, families are now planning funerals for 8-year-old Fletcher Merkel and 10-year-old Harper Moyski.

Police say Westman fired 116 rounds from a rifle through church windows before taking their own life. This wasn’t random violence – it was calculated evil designed to cause maximum terror and trauma. The shooter had previously attended this very school, and their mother once worked at the parish, making this betrayal even more twisted.

What’s deeply troubling is that Westman was born male but legally changed their name from Robert to Robin in 2020 to reflect a female identity. While the liberal media tries to downplay this connection, we cannot ignore the mental health crisis affecting young people confused about their own identity. Dr. Drew and other experts are right to question whether gender ideology is contributing to psychological instability in our youth.

The shooter’s hatred knew no bounds, targeting Christians, Jews, Black Americans, Mexican Americans, and even President Trump. This wasn’t about any single political cause – this was pure evil fueled by online radicalization and an obsession with previous mass killers. Westman wanted fame through carnage, following the sick playbook of other school shooters who have terrorized our communities.

Our children deserve better than this. While politicians debate gun laws that criminals ignore anyway, they refuse to address the real problems destroying young minds. We have a mental health emergency in America, made worse by social media poison and radical ideologies that tell kids to reject basic biology and traditional values.

These precious babies were attending Mass when evil struck their sanctuary. Fletcher and Harper should be starting second and fourth grade right now, not lying in coffins because our society failed to protect them. Their families are showing incredible grace by calling for change, but we need the right kind of change – not more failed liberal policies.

We must get serious about school security and mental health treatment before ideology completely destroys another generation. Every school in America should have armed protection, and we need to stop pretending that confusion about gender identity doesn’t create serious psychological problems for vulnerable young people.

The families of Fletcher and Harper deserve justice, not political games. As Americans, we must stand together to protect our children from those who would harm them, whether they carry guns or push dangerous ideologies that poison young minds. Our kids are counting on us to get this right.
