Media Can’t Ignore Border Truths as Crisis Numbers Plummet

For months the legacy press has pretended the border crisis was unsolvable and that enforcement was a joke — now even their own reporting can no longer hide the facts. U.S. Customs and Border Protection reported just 8,725 Border Patrol encounters between ports of entry in May 2025, a 93 percent drop from the same month a year earlier, and agents released zero migrants into the interior that month.

On NBC’s Meet the Press, host Kristen Welker was forced to confront that drop, and Connecticut Democrat Chris Murphy could not bring himself to credit the administration’s tough policies for the turnaround. Instead of celebrating results that keep communities safer, Murphy doubled down on partisan grievance, insisting the decline came from unlawful tactics rather than effective deterrence — a transparently political dodge.

Let’s call it what it is: Democrats and the media would rather peddle outrage than applaud results when conservative policies work. The contrast with last year is stark — agents were releasing more than 62,000 migrants under the prior administration, and now enforcement has real teeth and consequences; that is the reason the numbers are down and smug talking points are evaporating.

This didn’t happen by accident. The administration has moved aggressively to deny easy entry: contracts for physical barriers and enforcement tools are being signed, and operations to restore control at the border are in motion. The Trump team recently authorized miles of buoy barriers on the Rio Grande and is pressing for the kind of federal resources and legislation Republicans have long demanded to sustain this success.

Yet the media parade goes on, insisting skeptically that admitting the obvious would weaken their narrative. That reflexive resistance to facts is exactly why Americans distrust establishment outlets: when a policy secures the border and reduces crime and chaos, truth should matter more than partisan faith. Conservatives should be unapologetic about celebrating secure borders and the restoration of rule of law that defenders of open borders refuse to acknowledge.

Hardworking Americans see the difference between empty rhetoric and real results, and they deserve leaders and reporters who tell the truth. The choice is simple: keep defending our sovereignty and back policies that work, or return to the chaos that cost taxpayers and communities so much already. The results are in — it’s time the country recognizes what brave enforcement and clear consequences have accomplished.
