Left Blames Trump, Ignores National Guard Sacrifice

America watched in horror when two West Virginia National Guard members were ambushed just blocks from the White House, and yet again the left chose political score-keeping over basic decency. West Virginia Gov. Patrick Morrisey rightly called out the outrageousness of blaming President Trump for the attack when the focus should be on the killer and the victims.

The facts are stark: the shooting occurred near Farragut Square and left one Guardsman dead and another critically wounded, while the attacker was subdued and taken into custody. These were young Americans who answered the call to serve our capital, not political props to be tossed around by pundits.

Instead of honoring the sacrifice of those Guardsmen, a chorus of liberal commentators rushed to blame the president for deploying troops to protect the city — a cheap, partisan pivot that insults both the dead and the living. Governor Morrisey’s response on The Ingraham Angle was not just political pushback; it was a defense of the dignity Americans owe our uniformed men and women.

Let’s be clear: the mission in Washington was intended to keep Americans safe, and the brave Guardsmen who volunteered for that duty deserve our gratitude, not blame for a criminal’s actions. The left’s reflexive weaponization of tragedy to score against law-and-order policy is morally bankrupt and politically transparent.

Reports indicate the suspect resettled in the U.S. after the chaotic Afghanistan evacuation, which raises legitimate questions about vetting and resettlement processes that must now be examined. This is not a call to demonize refugees or immigrants, but a demand that our government prioritize American safety and restore rigorous screening so that tragedies like this can’t be exploited by the politically negligent.

If Washington wants to prove it cares, lawmakers should stop grandstanding and start legislating: hold hearings, tighten vetting, fund the Guard, and give our service members the respect and resources they deserve. We owe the fallen and their families more than partisan tweets — we owe them accountability, action, and the unapologetic defense of the nation they served.
