Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia said that he's considering a potential presidential run in 2024.
During an interview on NBC's Meet the Press, host Todd asked Manchin if he would be interested in running as a Democrat.
He stated that the decision is still in his mind, though he did not rule out a run for president as a Democrat.
Although he hasn't made a decision yet, Manchin noted that he's already focused on doing the best for his state and country in 2024. He also stated that there are various options that he's considering.
Manchin would not be drawn into a direct answer when asked if he would consider running as an independent. Instead, he stated that he was leaning toward leaving the Democratic Party.
When asked what he would like to do in the future, Manchin stated that he would only tell you what he believes is the best for West Virginia.
When pressed again, Manchin would not commit to a definitive answer. Todd continued to press him for an answer.
He stated that he's doing everything in his power to support the country and his home state.
In response to the recent departure of US Senator from Arizona, Krysten Sinema, Manchin stated that he was considering leaving the Democratic Party.
In an interview with CNN, Manchin stated he was not planning on doing anything at this time. He also noted that he could not predict what the future would bring.
Over the years, Manchin declared that he was not a Washington Democrat due to his disagreements with his colleagues over the failed Build Back Better project.
At the time, he stated that he was a moderate Democrat who would consider switching parties if he were to have a problem. However, he would still caucus with the Democrats.
