ISIS Strikes Again: 25 Christians Dead in Church Bombing in Syria

A suicide bomber attacked Mar Elias Church in Damascus during Sunday worship. At least 25 Christians were murdered and over 60 injured in this ISIS-led massacre. The terrorist opened fire on worshippers before detonating his explosive vest. This is the first major attack since Syria’s new government took power.

Islamic terrorists targeted innocent people praying in their church. They showed no mercy, killing men, women, and children during the Divine Liturgy. This evil act proves radical Islam still threatens religious freedom worldwide. The new Syrian government failed to protect its Christian citizens from known dangers.

Witnesses described two gunmen entering the holy place. One detonated his suicide vest while the other shot survivors. The attackers threw grenades into the crowd for maximum carnage. Church pews and sacred symbols were destroyed in the blast. This violence mocks the peace Jesus taught.

Syria’s government claims ISIS arranged the bombing. Yet they’ve arrested no leaders behind the slaughter. Their empty promises about “equal citizenship” ring hollow after this failure. Weak governments invite terrorists to attack religious minorities. Strong action was needed months ago.

The international community must pressure Syria to protect Christians. Greece rightly demanded immediate security for churches. America should lead this effort by cutting aid until real protections exist. Global silence empowers those who hate religious freedom.

Christian communities across the Middle East face extinction because of such attacks. This massacre reminds us that radical Islam seeks to erase Christian presence from the region. Western leaders ignore this genocide at our peril. We must defend our brothers and sisters in faith.

The new Syrian regime inherited this security crisis but worsened it. Since replacing Assad, they’ve allowed terrorists to regroup and strike. Their incompetence enabled this bloodshed. Strong nations don’t let suicide bombers murder citizens in holy places.

This atrocity shows why America must champion religious freedom globally. We need leaders who’ll confront Islamic terror, not ignore it. Protecting the vulnerable honors God and defends civilization. Let this martyrdom strengthen our resolve against evil.
