Two illegal immigrants are now facing serious charges for shooting a brave off-duty border patrol officer in New York City. Miguel Mora and Christhian Aybar planned their crime spree through text messages before hunting for victims. This is exactly what happens when we fail to secure our borders.
The officer was walking near the Hudson River when these criminals tried to rob him at gunpoint. Instead of being an easy target, this hero fought back and shot one of the attackers. The officer took bullets to his face and hand but still managed to wound the gunman.
These weren’t just random crimes by desperate people looking for food or shelter. The suspects had already robbed a woman earlier that night as part of their planned violent spree. They came here to hurt Americans and steal from hardworking families.
District Attorney Alvin Bragg finally did something right by charging these thugs with attempted murder. Mora faces first and second degree attempted murder charges while both men face robbery and weapons charges. They better get the maximum sentence possible.
This officer showed the kind of courage we expect from our law enforcement heroes. Even while off duty and outnumbered, he protected himself and likely saved other innocent people from becoming victims. Every American owes him a debt of gratitude.
How many more attacks like this will it take before politicians wake up? These illegal immigrants crossed our border and immediately started terrorizing New York families. Our communities are paying the price for failed border policies with their safety and their lives.
Mayor Eric Adams praised the collaboration between agencies that caught these criminals. But catching them after they shoot a federal officer is too little too late. We need to stop them at the border before they can hurt Americans.
The suspects will be arraigned later this month and they better face the full force of American justice.
