Another day, another shocking example of how broken our immigration system really is. A police officer in Maine got arrested by ICE for being an illegal alien. Jon-Luke Evans from Jamaica was supposed to protect and serve Americans, but he was breaking the law just by being here.
Evans came to America legally in September 2023 but overstayed his visa by years. He was supposed to leave after one week but decided to stick around illegally instead. Then he had the nerve to get a job as a cop while breaking our immigration laws every single day.
The whole mess came to light when Evans tried to buy a gun for police work. The ATF flagged him and called ICE, who swooped in and arrested him on July 25th. Now he sits in detention where he belongs, but this never should have happened in the first place.
ICE officials are furious and rightfully so. They called it tragic that a police department would hire an illegal alien and give him a weapon. The agency that’s supposed to enforce laws was breaking them by employing someone who had no right to be in our country.
The Old Orchard Beach Police Department is trying to cover their tracks now. They claim the federal government cleared Evans through E-Verify and approved him to work until 2030. But that just shows how messed up our system is when illegals can fool government databases.
This is exactly what happens when we don’t secure our borders properly. People overstay their visas and then embed themselves in our communities, even in law enforcement. How many other illegal aliens are working jobs they have no right to hold?
American citizens deserve better than this chaos. We have unemployed Americans who could fill these jobs instead of giving them to people who broke our laws to get here. Our tax dollars shouldn’t pay the salaries of illegal immigrants, especially not ones carrying badges and guns.
President Trump was right all along about the immigration crisis. We need mass deportations and real border security to stop this madness. Until we get serious about enforcement, stories like this will keep happening in towns across America.
