Letitia Wright, the Black Panther star who served as an executive producer on the faith-based film Sound of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot, publicly distanced herself this summer after Angel Studios partnered with the conservative outlet The Daily Wire to distribute the movie. Wright said the decision to partner with The Daily Wire “was not my decision” and insisted she was not aligned with the outlet, a move that predictably sent Hollywood’s pressure machine into overdrive.
The film’s producers and Angel Studios quickly apologized to Wright, saying they regretted not keeping her informed and insisting the partnership grew out of shared support for the movie’s mission to help vulnerable children. At the same time, The Daily Wire and its leaders defended their involvement and reminded the public that conservative media often fills the gaps left by culture-industry gatekeepers who refuse to promote wholesome, pro-family stories.
Here’s the inconvenient truth liberals won’t admit: Sound of Hope struck a nerve with everyday Americans because it tells a story about saving children, not scoring partisan points. The film overperformed at the box office for its scale and earned powerful audience praise while grassroots conservative outlets helped amplify it to people who still value family and faith over woke signaling.
Instead of celebrating a movie that shines a light on adoption and sacrifice, too many in Hollywood reflexively weaponized the story to attack The Daily Wire and anyone associated with conservative media. Daily Wire co-CEO Jeremy Boreing rightly reminded people that shared faith and a desire to help kids should be common ground, a simple point that the modern left’s intolerance for differing views seems determined to erase.
This controversy should be a wake-up call for hardworking Americans: Hollywood elites will try to control every narrative and purge anyone who steps outside their political playbook, but real people care far more about rescuing kids than about purity tests. If you believe in families, faith, and service to vulnerable children, then see the movie and refuse to let the cancel-culture mob dictate what stories matter.
At the end of the day, conservative media and creators are the ones putting honest, uplifting stories back on screens where the mainstream industry won’t. The petty back-and-forth won’t stop Americans who want to see a nation that cares for its own, and it should embarrass those in Hollywood who prioritize ideological conformity over compassion.
