Senator Josh Hawley is taking a stand against what he calls “incredibly abusive” court orders blocking President Trump’s policies. He’s pushing a new law to stop liberal judges from slapping nationwide injunctions on the White House. This comes after judges issued 15 orders in just one month to block Trump’s plans.
Hawley says these judges are overstepping their authority. He argues unelected officials shouldn’t get to decide national policy for everyone. His bill would limit judges’ power so their rulings only apply to specific cases or local areas. Trump supports the move, calling it a way to end the “lawfare” against his administration.
The legislation would ban judges from freezing policies across the whole country. Right now, a single activist judge can stop Trump’s plans dead in their tracks. Hawley points to blocked policies like defending the border and cutting taxpayer funding for transgender surgeries on kids.
Democrats have been using friendly judges to slow down Trump’s agenda, Hawley claims. They file lawsuits in liberal areas to get favorable rulings. One New York judge even stopped Trump’s team from accessing Treasury Department records without letting the government respond first.
President Trump backed Hawley’s plan on social media, demanding Congress act fast. He says the injunctions are a “judicial coup” meant to undermine his election wins. Conservative experts agree, calling it an abuse of the courts to push left-wing priorities.
During Obama’s presidency, judges issued just 12 nationwide injunctions over eight years. Against Trump? Sixty-four in his first term alone. Hawley says this proves Democrats are weaponizing the courts to block popular reforms voters demanded.
The new bill seeks to restore balance between government branches. It would let Trump’s team clean up corruption in agencies like USAID without activist judges interfering. Supporters say it’s about protecting democracy from far-left lawyers and bureaucrats.
Hawley’s fight highlights a growing conservative pushback against what they see as a “deep state” revolt. With Trump battling legal hurdles daily, this legislation could be a major step toward breaking the gridlock in Washington. Time will tell if Republicans unite to pass it.
