Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey are not interested in honest cooperation with the federal government on immigration. Hannity called out their rhetoric and behavior as a deliberate choice to prioritize sanctuary status over safety, and he warned that their intransigence invites chaos rather than peace.
President Trump and his team have publicly demanded that state and local law enforcement in Minnesota work with federal authorities to restore order, emphasizing that letting cops do their jobs is essential to protect communities. The White House has made clear this is not a partisan favor but a matter of enforcing the law and defending citizens from the consequences of sanctuary policies.
Instead of answering the call, Walz and Frey have doubled down on sanctuary posture, repeatedly telling federal agents and the public that local police will not be used to enforce immigration law. That refusal is a political stunt with real-world consequences: it ties the hands of officers who want to protect neighborhoods and instead leaves dangerous gaps that federal agents must try to fill under hostile conditions.
Those gaps have exploded into predictable unrest and tragedy, with confrontations between federal agents and locals spiraling into violence and loss of life during recent ICE operations in the Twin Cities. Minnesotans deserve to know whether their leaders will choose peace and cooperation or protect activists who shout down federal agents while ordinary citizens pay the price.
The response from the White House and conservative leaders has been right: sanctuary sheriffs and soft-on-enforcement politicians must face consequences, from withholding federal funds to passing laws that bar cities from undermining national immigration enforcement. We cannot tolerate a system where left-wing sanctuaries become safe harbors for criminality while hardworking taxpayers and law-abiding families suffer the fallout.
Make no mistake — this is about the rule of law and the safety of everyday Americans, not political theater. Patriotic citizens who work, pay taxes, and obey the law should not be sacrificed to the ideology of local elites who prioritize virtue signaling over basic public safety.
Conservatives must hold Walz, Frey, and other sanctuary politicians accountable at the ballot box and in the courts, and demand that federal partners be allowed to operate where local leaders refuse to. If we want safe streets and secure borders, we must stand strong for the men and women in uniform who enforce our laws and for the communities that keep America running.
