Gunman Targets National Guard in D.C. as Terror Threat Exposed

On November 26, 2025, downtown Washington, D.C. erupted in panic when a lone gunman ambushed National Guard troops near Farragut Square just blocks from the White House, leaving two Guardsmen critically wounded. The brazen daytime attack exposed the brutal reality that our streets — even in the shadow of the federal buildings — are battlegrounds when lawlessness and bad policy go unchecked.

Authorities quickly identified and detained a suspect who, according to multiple law enforcement sources, is an Afghan national who came to the United States under the Operation Allies Welcome program in 2021; the FBI is treating the incident as a potential act of terrorism while investigators probe motive. Americans have every right to be furious and demand answers about how someone with that background slipped through the cracks and ended up walking the streets of our capital with a firearm.

On Newsmax’s Newsline, foreign policy analyst Fred Fleitz and commentator Tom Borelli rightly ripped into the dishonest media storyline that tried to twist the shooting into an argument against a National Guard presence. Fleitz made the plain and necessary point: had brave troops and law enforcement not been nearby, a crowd of civilians — bystanders and children included — could well have become slaughtered victims. Conservatives should be unapologetic in defending those who stand between Americans and chaos.

Make no mistake: the left’s reflexive hand-wringing and headline-grabbing legal maneuvers to remove troops from the streets are dangerously out of touch with public safety. Judges and politicians can debate the technicalities of federal authority, but when citizens are shot in broad daylight two blocks from the White House, the only responsible response is to secure the scene and let law-and-order professionals do their jobs. The media’s moral preening in the wake of this ambush smells more like partisanship than concern for lives.

President Trump’s immediate reaction — calling for additional guard deployments and blaming lax migration policies for creating security vulnerabilities — reflects what ordinary Americans already know: porous borders and soft vetting endanger our communities. If Washington refuses to fix the broken systems that let potentially dangerous people into the country, then more soldiers, more police, and tougher enforcement will be the only shield between law-abiding Americans and an unraveling public safety net.

This is a moment for clarity and conviction, not virtue signaling and second-guessing. Stand with the National Guard troopers and first responders who ran toward danger to save others, demand accountability for the failures that allowed this to happen, and push our leaders to secure the border and restore order to our streets. America’s families deserve protection, and patriots must not cede safety to ideology or cowardly headlines.
