Greenland’s Future: Independence is Key to Escaping Denmark’s Grip

Carl Higbie, a conservative TV host on Newsmax, says Greenland would thrive more under American leadership than under Denmark. He argues the U.S. could boost Greenland’s economy and security better than the Danish government. Greenland already wants independence from Denmark, with over 60% of its people supporting a split, polls show. Higbie suggests Greenlanders and President Trump can find a “win-win” deal that helps both sides.

Greenland is rich in minerals and sits in a key spot near the Arctic. The U.S. already has a military base there. Higbie points out Denmark is thousands of miles away and can’t protect Greenland’s interests like America can. He says China and Russia are eyeing Greenland’s resources, but the U.S. could block them and keep the region safe. Unlike Denmark, America wouldn’t push “woke” policies like DEI on Greenland.

Denmark gives Greenland half its government funding, but Higbie calls this a trap keeping Greenland dependent. Under Trump, the U.S. would invest in Greenland’s infrastructure and jobs without handouts. He points to deals with Pacific islands like Palau, where the U.S. provides security in exchange for partnership. Greenland could gain real freedom while teaming up with America.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen recently criticized U.S. interest in Greenland. But Higbie says Denmark is just scared of losing control. He claims Denmark bullied Greenland into rejecting Chinese 5G technology and hurts its economic growth. Greenland’s leaders have already asked for independence talks, but Denmark delays them. Higbie says Greenlanders know their future lies with America, not Europe.

President Trump has made clear he wants Greenland under U.S. influence. His son Don Jr. visited earlier this year, and Vice President J.D. Vance toured a U.S. base there last week. Second Lady Usha Vance also plans a trip to highlight Greenland’s culture. Trump calls Denmark’s claim to Greenland weak, saying, “A boat landed there 200 years ago… they say they have rights. I don’t think so.”

Greenland’s politicians rejected Trump’s remarks, but Higbie says they’re just posturing. He believes everyday Greenlanders want jobs and security, which Denmark can’t provide. Under U.S. partnership, Greenland could mine rare minerals, fish freely, and build modern ports. America’s track record in places like Guam and Puerto Rico shows it can develop remote territories.

Critics say Trump’s push for Greenland is reckless. But Higbie counters that Biden’s weak leadership let China flood Greenland with investments. Over 12% of Greenland’s economy now depends on Chinese mining deals. Higbie warns letting China control Greenland’s resources would risk U.S. security. Only Trump’s strong policies can counter Beijing and Moscow in the Arctic.

The battle over Greenland’s future is heating up. With elections coming in April, Greenland’s prime minister vows to push independence. Higbie says the U.S. should back this move and offer a defense pact. Greenland gets freedom, America gets a strategic ally — and Denmark fades into the past. For patriots, it’s a no-brainer.
