GOP Slams Sanctuary Mayors: Protecting Criminals Over Citizens?

The mayors of New York, Chicago, Denver, and Boston got grilled in Congress this week over their cities’ “sanctuary” policies. Republican lawmakers blasted the leaders for refusing to help federal immigration cops deport illegal immigrants. They said these policies let dangerous criminals stay on the streets.

New York Mayor Eric Adams tried to play both sides. He claims he works with ICE now, but critics say he’s only cooperating to get federal corruption charges against him dropped. Adams denied making any deals, but even Democrats attacked him for selling out his city to save his skin.

Chicago’s mayor, Brandon Johnson, bragged about lower crime rates. But Republicans fired back, saying Chicago streets aren’t safe when ICE can’t do its job. They showed videos of ICE agents risking their lives to arrest illegals released by local cops. Johnson said his city “welcomes everyone,” but didn’t explain how taxpayers afford the chaos.

Denver’s mayor, Mike Johnston, got called out for lying about safety. A GOP congressman proved ICE had to tackle a criminal right after Denver let him go. Johnston shrugged it off, saying Congress should fix immigration laws instead. Meanwhile, Denver schools are suing to keep ICE away from kids – even though gangs might be hiding there.

Boston’s Michelle Wu brought her baby to the hearing but couldn’t cry her way out of tough questions. She claims immigrants are too scared to report crimes, but ICE says sanctuary rules force agents into dangerous raids. Wu’s city is wasting $650,000 on lawyers instead of cops.

Republicans warned all four mayors they could face jail time. Federal law says cities must help immigration enforcement, but these leaders ignore it. Their policies protect criminal illegals over American families. Even liberal cities are drowning in costs – New York spent $7 billion housing migrants.

The hearing exposed how these mayors care more about politics than people. While they virtue-signal about “welcoming” cities, ordinary folks deal with overcrowded schools, spiking rents, and fear. President Trump’s team is right to crack down on these lawless zones.

Sanctuary cities are a disaster. They disrespect federal laws, waste tax dollars, and make neighborhoods unsafe. It’s time to support ICE, deport criminal illegals, and hold these radical mayors accountable. Trump’s push for law and order is the only way to fix this mess.
