In recognition of his military service, Cory Mills, a Republican from Florida, presented his fellow members of Congress with commemorative grenades.
Mills, who was a member of the Army's 82nd Airborne Division, deployed to Iraq and was awarded a Bronze Star. After working as a defense contractor, he was appointed to the Foreign Affairs and Armed Services committees of the House.
"Mills, in a letter to his colleagues, stated that he was honored to be part of the committees. He promised to work with his colleagues to deliver on the country's needs."

"In his presentation, Mills noted that he was able to give the members of Congress a 40mm grenade, which was made in Florida. It was originally developed during the Vietnam War."
Mills was a first-time candidate who emerged from a field of eight to become the replacement of Rep. Stephanie Murphy, who was retiring. He won the November election against Karen Green, a Democrat.
Mills noted that the grenades he presented to his colleagues were inert. They featured an image of an elephant on the side.
In 1968, the US military started using the MK-19 grenade launcher. It was developed by General Dynamics. Originally, this weapon was used on Vietnam War era ships.
