British politician Nigel Farage showed Democrats exactly how to handle their nasty attacks during a House hearing this week. The Reform UK leader was invited to testify about free speech threats from Britain’s new internet censorship laws. But instead of talking policy, Democrats decided to launch a vicious personal attack.
Congressman Jamie Raskin went completely unhinged on Farage right from the start. He called the British leader a “Putin-loving, free-speech impostor and Trump sycophant” in front of the entire committee. Raskin clearly thought he could bully and embarrass Farage with his typical leftist name-calling tactics.
But Farage handled the attack like a true champion of free speech. Instead of getting angry or defensive, he calmly thanked Raskin for his “delightful testimony.” He then said “you can say what you like, I don’t care” and called the Democrat “charming” with obvious sarcasm that had the crowd laughing.
The British politician used the moment to teach Americans about real free speech principles. He reminded everyone about defending to the death someone’s right to say things we disagree with. This is exactly what our Founding Fathers believed and what made America great.
Raskin tried to catch Farage in some kind of gotcha moment about past statements. But Farage stayed calm and focused on the real issue at hand. He came to warn Americans about how Britain’s new censorship laws could spread to our country and destroy our First Amendment rights.
The whole exchange perfectly showed the difference between conservatives and liberals on free speech. Conservatives like Farage actually believe in it even when people attack them personally. Democrats only support free speech when it helps their political agenda.
This is exactly why Americans voted for Donald Trump and why we need strong leaders who won’t back down to leftist bullies. Farage proved that standing up to Democrat attacks with grace and humor is the winning strategy. The crowd’s laughter showed everyone could see through Raskin’s desperate political theater.
The real question is why Democrats are so afraid of hearing about censorship threats that they resort to personal attacks instead of debate. Maybe because they know their own party supports the same kind of speech restrictions that are destroying freedom in Britain right now.
