A deputy was shot and killed in Florida on Christmas Eve. According to authorities, the incident started after a domestic dispute.
The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office identified the deceased deputy as Ray Hamilton, who had been with the agency for five years. He was shot during a standoff that happened at a Fort Walton Beach home. Timothy Price-Williams, 43, was apprehended and charged with murder.
Authorities had obtained a warrant for his arrest after he allegedly shoved and slapped his girlfriend during an argument. According to the law enforcers, Price-Williams took her phone so she would not call for help.
The SWAT team was then called to assist law enforcers in negotiating with Price-Williams. When Hamilton and other officers entered the home, they were shot by Price-Williams.
Hamilton was then taken to a hospital, where he later died. He was pronounced dead at around 3 p.m, according to officials.
The OCSO is devastated by the loss of Deputy Hamilton, who was known for his dedication to protecting the public. He was also a highly respected and loved individual within the agency. The Sheriff Aden and his colleagues extend their sympathies to the Hamilton family.
The Fraternal Order of Police also expressed its condolences to the family of the fallen deputy. He was part of the agency's Special Response Team. The organization noted that the violence against law enforcers must stop.
During the incident, Price-Williams allegedly came out of the house in a manner that caused one of the deputies to shoot him. He was then taken to the hospital and later charged with premeditated murder.
