The Department of Homeland Security has formally launched “Operation Catahoula Crunch” in New Orleans, deploying federal ICE and Border Patrol personnel to round up illegal immigrants the administration says were released after criminal arrests. This is the kind of decisive enforcement Americans were promised and it is about time Washington stopped letting sanctuary cities play politics with public safety.
Reports say hundreds of federal agents are involved and the operation has a hard objective to make as many arrests as possible over an extended period, with DHS emphasizing the focus on those accused of violent crimes. Local leaders who protected criminals for years now complain when federal agents show up; the contrast between rhetoric and results is striking.
Governor Jeff Landry and other state officials have welcomed the operation, while city Democrats and activist groups have predictably raised the alarm — showing again that soft-on-crime politics comes before the safety of citizens in too many liberal-run cities. Conservatives should celebrate when the federal government finally enforces the law instead of lecturing Americans about compassion while ignoring victims.
Make no mistake: this is about restoring rule of law. For years Americans watched as local policies nullified federal detainers and released dangerous people back onto our streets; federal action like Catahoula Crunch demonstrates that a government that protects its citizens is a government worth defending. The left’s hysterics cannot drown out the relief felt by families who want safe neighborhoods and accountable leaders.
At the same time, the federal spotlight has moved to Minnesota, where prosecutors have exposed massive fraud in pandemic-era programs that drained taxpayer money meant for children and vulnerable families. The Feeding Our Future scandal and related investigations show what happens when oversight is weak and political convenience trumps basic accountability; hardworking Americans deserve better than to have charity turned into a slush fund.
Those fraud revelations have real national security and fiscal implications, and they explain why DHS and other federal agencies are now expanding enforcement and audits in Minnesota’s Somali enclaves. If governors and state agencies don’t clamp down and root out corruption, the federal government must and will step in to protect taxpayers and the integrity of assistance programs.
Senator Joni Ernst and other Republicans have rightly demanded tougher oversight and accountability, calling for special inspectors and congressional scrutiny to make sure these scandals are fully exposed and the people responsible prosecuted. Washington cannot shrug and pass the buck; Congress should use every tool to claw back stolen dollars and to ensure state officials who turned a blind eye are held to account.
This moment should unite every patriot who believes in secure borders, honest government, and fair enforcement of the law. Keep pushing for operations like Catahoula Crunch, demand transparency on fraud investigations, and hold the political class responsible — because protecting American citizens and taxpayers is the only job that matters.
