Democrats Hold Americans Hostage as Shutdown Drags On, Fischer Says

Senator Deb Fischer didn’t mince words on Newsmax’s Wake Up America when she called out Democrats for refusing the continuing resolution and effectively extending the government shutdown that began on October 1, 2025. Fischer rightly reminded viewers that Republicans offered a clean, short-term CR to keep the lights on while real negotiations continue, but Democrats chose obstruction and political posturing instead.

Make no mistake: Democrats are demanding giveaways and policy riders — most notably an open-ended extension of Affordable Care Act subsidies — as the price of keeping government running, and they are using hard-working Americans as leverage. This isn’t governing; it’s hostage-taking by career politicians who think headlines matter more than people’s paychecks.

The human cost is immediate and real: federal employees are being furloughed, essential services face disruption, and the economy risks measurable damage if this standoff drags on. President Trump and congressional Republicans have warned of cuts and restructuring during a funding lapse, and it’s the Democrats’ refusal to vote for a clean CR that put millions of Americans in this needless position.

Conservatives understand what Senator Fischer does: continuing resolutions are a band-aid that reward fiscal irresponsibility, but walking away from a simple stopgap that keeps government operating is reckless politics. Fischer has long pushed for regular order and real appropriations so Americans can see what their money funds, not theatrical votes designed to appease the far left.

Republicans should stand firm in defending taxpayers and insist that any long-term policy fights happen through transparent, accountable legislation — not by holding the nation hostage over partisan wishlist items. If Democrats want to protect the vulnerable, negotiate in the open and pass it on the merits; until then, patriotic lawmakers must protect working Americans from this cynical political game.

This shutdown is a test of whose side our leaders are on: the American people or their own political survival. Senator Fischer spoke for millions of voters when she demanded real responsibility and an end to the theater; Democrats must stop playing politics with lives and livelihoods and reopen the nation now.
