Another day, another Democratic candidate caught with a grotesque symbol on his body and the left doing everything in its power to sweep it under the rug. Maine Senate hopeful Graham Platner has admitted the skull-and-crossbones chest tattoo resembled a Nazi-associated image — and yet establishment Democrats and their media allies are already circling the wagons.
Platner says he got the tattoo in 2007 while serving in the Marines on leave in Croatia and that he was too drunk to appreciate the symbol’s connotations at the time. He claims he never knew the image’s Nazi ties and has repeatedly insisted he is “not a secret Nazi,” even as the revelation understandably alarms voters.
Facing heat, Platner hastily covered the original design with a Celtic knot and an animal motif, saying removal options were limited in his rural area so he chose to cover it instead. That quick fix doesn’t erase questions about judgment and awareness that voters rightly deserve answered before anyone entrusts him with higher office.
This tattoo controversy did not happen in isolation — it arrived on the heels of resurfaced Reddit posts where Platner made offensive and dismissive comments about victims, police, and other Americans. Those past remarks, which he blames on trauma and PTSD, only deepen the credibility gap and reveal a pattern that Democrats would prefer to excuse.
Worse still, a former campaign aide publicly resigned and said Platner likely knew the symbol’s meaning for years, raising uncomfortable questions about why this was not addressed earlier by his supporters or the party apparatus. If true, that speaks to a rot inside the Democratic machine — priorities that protect allies instead of protecting voters from scandal.
This race matters: it’s a high-stakes Senate contest that could determine control in Washington, and yet Democrats are lining up behind a candidate with a troubling past instead of demanding frank accountability. Even as figures like Bernie Sanders have signaled continued support, rank-and-file Americans watching this circus are left wondering where principle went and why double standards rule the day.
Patriots and sensible voters should demand real answers, full transparency, and accountability — not performative apologies and quick tattoo cover-ups. The left’s eagerness to defend its own when inconvenient facts surface is a lesson in hypocrisy: if this had been a conservative candidate, the media uproar would have been relentless and unforgiving. It’s time Democrats stop protecting insiders and start respecting the voters they expect to lead.
