Covid-19 Test Offered Free in La County for Pets

Testing for COVID is being provided at no cost to pet owners in the county of Los Angeles for animals that may have been infected with the virus.

The free testing was made public via an announcement made by the Veterinary Public Health Department, and it was pushed via Twitter by the L.A. County Department of Public Health on Saturday.

The tweet: Your pet may be eligible for free SARS-CoV-2 testing if they were exposed to a human or animal with COVID-19 or if they have signs of COVID-19, and it provided a link to other resources for those interested in learning more:

The Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists (CSTE) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention both contributed financial support to the program (CDC).

In addition to domesticated animals like dogs, cats, and hamsters, the health department has announced that it would also attempt to test wild animals including deer, bats, raccoons, and seals. The information was included in a press release.

If a pet was exposed to either a human or another animal with COVID-19 or if it had indications of COVID-19 and was exposed to either a human or another animal with COVID-19, then it is eligible for testing.

Since the first notification, 177 tests have been carried out in Los Angeles, and there have been no reports of positive cases.
