Hollywood elites just can’t help themselves when it comes to virtue signaling. Coldplay frontman Chris Martin proved this once again at a recent London concert. When Israeli fans were invited on stage, some audience members actually booed them simply for being Israeli.
Instead of standing up to the antisemitic crowd, Martin chose the cowardly path of political correctness. He told the Israeli fans he would treat them as “equal humans on Earth” as if their basic humanity was somehow in question. This disgusting display shows just how far the entertainment industry has fallen.
Why did these young Israeli fans need to be told they would be treated as humans? They came to enjoy music, not to have their right to exist debated on stage. Martin turned what should have been a fun moment into an uncomfortable political lecture that embarrassed these kids in front of 90,000 people.
But Martin wasn’t done with his virtue signaling performance. He then felt the need to also welcome Palestinians in the audience to show how balanced and enlightened he is. This both-sides approach is exactly what’s wrong with liberal celebrities who refuse to stand with our ally Israel.
The Jewish community rightfully called out Martin’s shameful behavior. They pointed out that he made the Israeli fans feel conditionally tolerated instead of simply celebrating them like any other fans. This is the kind of soft antisemitism that polite society pretends doesn’t exist.
This incident shows the growing antisemitism problem in entertainment and culture. When Israeli fans get booed at a concert just for existing, we have a serious problem. Instead of calling out this hatred, Martin chose to appease the mob with his weak both-sides statement.
Real leaders don’t qualify people’s humanity based on their nationality. They stand up to bullies and defend what’s right. Martin had a chance to show real courage by defending those Israeli kids from the hateful crowd, but he failed miserably.
This is what happens when celebrities care more about their woke image than doing the right thing. American patriots need to remember which entertainers stand with our allies and which ones cave to antisemitic pressure. Martin showed his true colors, and they’re not pretty.
