Chicago Mayor Faces Backlash as Migrant Crisis Spirals Out of Control

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson faced a tough crowd in Washington this week. He was grilled by Congress over his handling of the migrant crisis. Republican leaders slammed him for spending taxpayer money to help illegal immigrants instead of fixing Chicago’s roads and crime problems.

Johnson defended his actions, claiming Texas Governor Greg Abbott “shipped chaos” to Chicago by busing migrants there. But critics pointed out the city has blown over $625 million on migrant care since 2022. That’s enough to hire 7,000 new cops or repair every pothole in town.

Things got heated when Florida Rep. Anna Paulina Luna warned Johnson he’ll be reported to the DOJ. She accused him of breaking federal laws by hiding migrants from ICE. Luna said Chicago’s sanctuary policies are putting Americans at risk. Protesters back home agree – they’ve been crashing city meetings wearing “Chicago Flips Red” shirts.

The mayor’s team tried hiding the true costs at first. Records show Chicago secretly spent $850,000 just to move migrants out of town. Over 51,000 arrivals have overwhelmed shelters, schools, and hospitals. Many neighborhoods now look like tent cities.

Johnson keeps blaming everyone else – from Abbott to Trump – but voters are fed up. At a recent council meeting, residents shouted “You work for us!” before being dragged out by police. One man yelled about “merry deportation Christmas” coming for illegals under Trump’s new border czar.

Even Democrats admit the crisis is out of control. The city’s broke, shelters are closing, and 75% of evicted migrants have nowhere to go. Chicago’s homelessness shot up 30% since 2022. Meanwhile, the mayor wants another $70 million for “just-in-time” migrant camps during the DNC.

Conservatives say this proves liberal policies always fail. Spending millions on non-citizens while veterans sleep rough? Letting measles outbreaks spread in overcrowded shelters? Prioritizing illegals over taxpayers? Chicago shows what happens when wokeness runs a city.

Now Johnson’s in legal hot water. If the DOJ acts, he could face charges for obstructing ICE. With Trump leading polls, Chicago’s sanctuary status might soon be history. The Windy City’s blue leadership looks shaky – and November’s election could blow them right out of office.
