President Joe Biden is scheduled to visit Uvalde, Texas this weekend in response to a mass shooting that claimed the lives of at least 19 children and two adults at an elementary school in the city. Since taking office, this will be Biden’s closest trip to the southern border yet.
To visit Uvalde is fine, but there’s no explanation he can’t also visit the border, even if the president will most likely use his trip to make a statement on gun control. There are a number of illegal immigration hotspots within an hour’s drive of Uvalde, making it easy for President Joe Biden to visit Eagle Pass and Del Rio next week.
No arrangements for Joe Biden’s motorcade stop at the overcrowded border have been announced by the White House despite pleas for him to directly address the situation he exacerbated by abolishing Trump-era law enforcement.
President Trump and his team’s clear support for illegal immigration has led to an increase in the number of deaths at the US-Mexico border, particularly among illegal border crossers. According to recent news reports, the number of deaths from drowning, heat exhaustion, and malnutrition has increased since the Biden administration implemented an unofficial gag order to prevent the media from accessing federal data.
At least 650 migrants will have lost their lives trying to sneak across the border between the United States and Mexico in 2021. Although many died as a result of heat stroke and drowning, others were the victims of gunfights between rival Mexican gangs.
The number of fatalities in Del Rio, a town approximately an hour’s drive from Uvalde, is also on the rise. A record-breaking 66 people died trying to cross the border illegally in the first half of 2021. That’s roughly twice the number of people who died in the previous year.
Two Angolan brothers, ages 7 and 9, were washed away by the raging Rio Grande as they attempted to illegally cross the southwest U.S. border with their parents earlier this month in Del Rio, Texas.
It’s not the first time President Joe Biden has consciously avoided the current border crisis because it’s politically awkward for him and his rapidly dwindling popularity. When an anti-white supremacist opened fire in a Buffalo, New York grocery store, Biden went to the scene, but he didn’t go to Waukesha after a criminal who advocated violence against the white community slaughtered dozens of parade participants and onlookers there. As Fox News White House Correspondent Peter Doocy pointed out to White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre in a press briefing last week:
The tens of thousands of illegal immigrants and tones of drugs that cross the border each month aren’t only ignored by Biden. Due to intense public and media criticism, Kamala Harris, who was tasked with determining the “root causes” of undocumented immigration into the United States, only made a brief visit to the southern border in 2017.
