Todd Bensman, a national security expert, recently appeared on Fox News to discuss what he calls the “most effective way” to stop illegal immigration. He praised former President Donald Trump’s policies for successfully securing the border and criticized current approaches under President Joe Biden. Bensman argued that Biden’s reversal of Trump-era rules led to chaos, with millions crossing illegally and straining American communities.
Bensman highlighted Trump’s “Remain in Mexico” policy as a game-changer. This rule required migrants to wait outside the U.S. while their asylum claims were processed. He said it sharply reduced illegal crossings because fewer people tried to enter when they couldn’t stay indefinitely. Biden ended the policy in 2021, which Bensman claims directly caused the current crisis.
The expert slammed Biden’s border strategy as a “magnet” for illegal immigration. He pointed to reports of FEMA spending $59 million on luxury hotels for migrants in New York City while Americans struggled after disasters like Hurricane Helene. Bensman called this misuse of funds “egregious” and accused Biden of prioritizing illegal immigrants over U.S. citizens.
Republican leaders agree with Bensman’s assessment. Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY) applauded recent firings of federal employees who approved migrant hotel payments, calling it overdue. Lawler blamed sanctuary city policies for wasting taxpayer money on free housing, healthcare, and education for illegal immigrants instead of helping Americans in need.
Bensman warned that open borders invite national security risks. He cited record numbers of migrants from hostile countries like China and flagged concerns about terrorists slipping through gaps in border screening. Under Biden, he said overwhelmed agents can’t properly vet arrivals, leaving communities vulnerable to crime and potential attacks.
The crisis has hit cities like New York hard, where taxpayers foot the bill for sheltering thousands of migrants. Bensman noted that schools are overcrowded, services are stretched thin, and local budgets are drained—problems he says wouldn’t exist if Trump’s policies had stayed in place. He urged leaders to stop incentivizing illegal immigration with free benefits.
Bensman urged Congress to pass strict laws making it harder to claim asylum or stay in the U.S. illegally. He wants faster deportations, an end to “catch and release,” and penalties for cities that shield illegal immigrants from federal law. Without these changes, he predicts the crisis will keep worsening until Americans “take back control.”
Conservative commentators say Bensman’s warnings prove Trump was right about border security. They argue Democrats created this disaster by opposing every solution—from building walls to enforcing immigration laws—and that voters should hold them accountable in upcoming elections before it’s too late.
