Watching Liz Collin of Alpha News tell Greta van Susteren that “it’s frankly embarrassing to see what has transpired” in Minneapolis was a breath of fresh honesty in a media landscape that too often excuses chaos. Hardworking Minnesotans deserve better than the spectacle of mobs and moral cowardice from local leaders who seem more interested in virtue signaling than protecting their citizens. This is exactly the kind of plain-speaking journalism our country needs right now.
President Trump’s blunt warning that he could invoke the Insurrection Act to restore order in Minneapolis is what true leadership looks like when state and local governments fail to act. The president is correct to put the onus back on officials who have allowed lawlessness to take root instead of enforcing the rule of law and defending the innocent.
This crisis didn’t come out of nowhere — it followed heavy-handed federal immigration enforcement operations in the city and tragic confrontations, including the fatal shooting of Renee Good and a subsequent shooting that left another man wounded. Americans can mourn loss of life while still demanding transparent investigations and accountability for all parties involved.
What’s worse is the predictable chorus blaming federal agents while ignoring the pattern of escalating violence and the role of “professional agitators” who turn lawful protests into dangerous confrontations. The federal operation in Minneapolis involved thousands of agents and has led to mass arrests, and the consequences of soft local governance are plain to see. Enough capitulation; order must be restored.
Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey have tried to cast themselves as victims of federal overreach, but their lack of decisive action has only emboldened the chaos. Local leaders who prefer performative outrage to real policing are failing the people who pay their salaries and vote them into office. The political theater has to stop and accountability needs to start.
Schools moving to remote learning, ongoing clashes between protesters and federal officers, and federal investigations into property damage are the predictable fallout when lawless behavior is tolerated. Families, small businesses, and everyday citizens are paying the price for a city turned into a battleground by reckless politics. Minneapolis should be focused on healing and rebuilding, not hosting a recurring episode of disorder.
Patriots don’t cheer for chaos and we don’t worship permissiveness. Americans want streets where kids can play, stores that stay open, and public servants who defend the public rather than placate mobs. If invoking federal authority is what it takes to reestablish peace and protect citizens, so be it — and the people of Minnesota deserve nothing less than leaders who will do their duty and stand up for law and order.
