Trump Slams Powell: Fed Chair Must Be Held Accountable for Rising Costs

President Trump’s blunt verdict on Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell — that he is “either incompetent or crooked” — was a welcome dose of common-sense accountability from a leader who refuses to let swampy elites hide behind technocratic robes. Americans are tired of officials who talk out of both sides of their mouths while our families pay higher borrowing costs and small businesses struggle. When a president calls out a central banker who has presided over punitive interest rates and questionable conduct, hardworking citizens hear someone finally standing up for their wallets.

That criticism comes on the heels of mounting scrutiny into Powell’s conduct, including questions about renovations and testimony that have drawn a DOJ probe and fierce debate over Fed transparency. Establishment defenders are already trotting out the age-old line about “independence,” but independence does not mean immunity from accountability, especially when taxpayer pain is on the line. Voters deserve to know whether policy mistakes were honest errors or cover for something worse, and the administration is right to demand answers.

On the ground in Detroit, Mr. Trump connected these complaints to a broader economic case: the White House wants lower rates to energize growth, boost manufacturing, and get mortgages flowing again to hardworking Americans. Forcing a reset at the Fed would be a pro-growth move that rewards Americans who actually produce things, not the career bureaucrats who cheer high rates while proclaiming victory in economic theory. It’s refreshing to see a president who measures policy by its effect on ordinary families rather than on abstract models.

At the same time, the administration has been blunt about crime and the turnaround in cities that used to be write-offs for Democrats. Contrary to elite narratives, violence has fallen in many big blue cities after federal and local law-and-order initiatives took hold, proving that toughness, clear priorities, and support for law enforcement work for everyday people. Politicians in coastal media enclaves would rather spin fear than admit success, but parents and small-business owners in those neighborhoods know the difference between real safety and political theater.

That progress is precisely why the White House has not shied away from sending federal resources — including National Guard support in hard-hit cities — to protect Americans when local leaders refuse to act. Critics howl about “militarization,” but ask any mom or shopkeeper who’s seen shootings stop whether they prefer slogans or results; they’ll pick results every time. If delivering quiet streets and thriving commerce upends a few liberal talking points, so be it — our priority should always be the safety and prosperity of American families.

This fight over the Fed is about fundamentals: who governs, and who serves the people. If Jerome Powell misled Congress or presided over policies that wreck ordinary Americans’ plans, he should be held to account — and if he’s simply been incompetent, voters deserve a Fed that understands real-world consequences. President Trump’s willingness to call out elites, defend Main Street, and push for accountable leadership is exactly what the country needs right now; patriots everywhere should cheer a commander-in-chief who puts Americans first.
