On Sunday, federal Judge Sparkle Sooknanan issued a temporary restraining order that stopped the deportation of Guatemalan children who entered our country illegally. This Biden-appointed judge literally pulled kids off planes that were ready to take off.
The ruling blocks deportations for 14 days and affects hundreds of unaccompanied minors from Guatemala. These children were part of a groundbreaking pilot program that Trump negotiated with Guatemala to finally send illegal immigrants back where they belong. The administration had identified over 600 Guatemalan children for potential deportation under this common-sense agreement.
This is exactly the kind of judicial activism that has plagued our immigration system for decades. Liberal judges keep stepping in to protect people who broke our laws and entered our country illegally. They care more about foreign nationals than they do about American citizens who follow the rules.
The National Immigration Law Center, a far-left advocacy group, filed this lawsuit at the last minute to stop these deportations. They claim these children face danger if returned to Guatemala, but that is not America’s problem to solve. Every country has challenges, but we cannot be the world’s orphanage.
President Trump ran on a promise to enforce our immigration laws and secure our border. The American people voted for mass deportations and stricter enforcement. Yet liberal judges keep blocking every effort to actually follow through on these promises.
This temporary order shows how the deep state and activist judiciary work together to undermine the will of the people. Judge Sooknanan was appointed by Joe Biden, and now she is doing everything possible to sabotage Trump’s immigration agenda. This is not how our system is supposed to work.
The children were already on deportation flights when this ridiculous order came through. ICE agents had to turn the planes around and bring these illegal immigrants back into our country. This wastes taxpayer money and makes a mockery of our immigration system.
Americans are fed up with judges who think they can rewrite immigration law from the bench. We need Congress to act and limit the power of activist judges to interfere with immigration enforcement. Until then, our border will never be truly secure.
