California Governor Gavin Newsom just got caught red-handed in the biggest flip-flop of his political career. The liberal Democrat has been fighting President Trump in court to stop federal troops from helping fight crime in his state. Now he’s turning around and doing the exact same thing with his own forces.
Newsom announced he’s sending California Highway Patrol officers to fight crime in San Francisco, Oakland, Los Angeles and other cities. This comes just two weeks after Trump said he could deploy the National Guard to help these same crime-ridden areas. The timing makes Newsom look like a complete fraud.
The governor has been screaming about Trump’s “military overreach” and calling the president a wannabe king. He even sued the federal government to stop National Guard troops from helping California communities. Newsom claimed using military forces was against the law and hurt innocent citizens.
But now Newsom is bragging about his own law enforcement deployment like he invented the idea. He’s sending state troopers to the same places where he refused Trump’s help. The hypocrisy is so obvious that even liberal reporters are calling him out.
This is typical Democrat politics at work. When Trump offers to help fight crime, he’s an authoritarian dictator. When Newsom does the same thing, he’s a hero protecting communities. The only difference is the party label.
California families are suffering from rising crime while their governor plays political games. Cities like San Francisco and Oakland desperately need help cleaning up their streets. But Newsom would rather score political points against Trump than actually solve problems.
The real victims here are ordinary Californians who just want to feel safe in their neighborhoods. They don’t care if help comes from state or federal officers. They want results, not more partisan theater from their failed governor.
Newsom’s flip-flop proves what conservatives have always known about him. He’s all talk and no substance when it comes to real leadership. His hatred of Trump matters more to him than protecting the people who elected him.
