The Trump administration just made a deal that should worry every freedom-loving American. Our government is now buying a 10% stake in Intel, the computer chip giant. This means taxpayers are suddenly partners in a private company whether we like it or not.
The deal gives Intel almost $9 billion of our hard-earned tax dollars. In return, Intel hands over 433 million shares of stock to Uncle Sam. This is exactly the kind of government meddling our founders warned us about.
Sure, Intel makes the computer chips that power our phones and military equipment. China wants to control this market and push America out. But since when did we start fighting socialism with more socialism?
The government picking winners and losers in business is a dangerous game. What happens when politicians decide which companies get taxpayer money and which ones fail? This opens the door for corruption and crony capitalism that hurts honest businesses.
Intel itself admits this deal could backfire badly. Foreign countries might stop buying Intel products because the U.S. government now owns part of the company. Customers and suppliers are already getting nervous about doing business with a government-owned firm.
The CHIPS Act was supposed to bring manufacturing back to America. That sounds great on paper but look what it really means. It means bigger government, more spending, and Washington bureaucrats running private companies.
Every conservative should ask tough questions about this deal. Is this really about national security or just another way for government to grow bigger? Are we protecting America or creating a monster that will hurt free markets?
President Trump says this will make America stronger and more independent. Maybe he is right about securing our supply chains. But we better make sure we do not lose our economic freedom while trying to beat China.
