A tragic crash on the Florida Turnpike has exposed the deadly consequences of our broken immigration system. On August 12th, an illegal immigrant truck driver named Harjinder Singh made an illegal U-turn with his big rig, killing three innocent Americans in a minivan. This was not an accident – this was a preventable tragedy caused by failed liberal policies.
Singh entered our country illegally in 2018 by sneaking across the Mexican border. Despite having no legal right to be here, he somehow got commercial driver licenses from both California and Washington state. These radical blue states handed out CDLs to someone who should have been deported years ago.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy launched an investigation and discovered shocking details. Singh could barely speak English, answering only 2 out of 12 basic questions correctly during testing. He could identify just 1 out of 4 highway signs – yet he was driving an 40-ton death machine on American roads.
After killing three people, Singh did what criminals do – he ran. He fled to California the very next day, trying to escape justice for his crimes. Federal marshals had to hunt him down and drag him back to Florida to face charges.
A Florida judge rightfully denied Singh bail, calling him a major flight risk. He now faces six serious charges including vehicular homicide and manslaughter. Governor Ron DeSantis correctly stated that Singh should never have been here and definitely should not have gotten a license.
The victims’ families deserve justice, not excuses. Yet incredibly, over 2 million people have signed a petition asking for mercy for this killer. They claim it was just an accident, ignoring that Singh broke multiple laws that led to three deaths.
This disaster shows what happens when states ignore federal immigration law. California and Washington violated safety rules to give licenses to someone who had no business driving trucks. Their reckless policies turned our highways into killing fields.
President Trump and Secretary Duffy are fighting to restore safety to American roads. They will hold these sanctuary states accountable for their deadly decisions. Every American family deserves protection from criminals who should not be in our country.
