Illinois Governor JB Pritzker got caught red-handed on national television this week. NBC’s Kristen Welker did something rare for mainstream media – she actually asked a Democrat a tough question. Pritzker was on Meet the Press trying to bash Texas Republicans over redistricting when Welker hit him with the truth.
The governor was busy lecturing America about gerrymandering in Texas. He claimed Republicans there were violating the Constitution and hurting democracy. But Welker wasn’t going to let this billionaire politician get away with his lies. She pointed out that Illinois is one of the most gerrymandered states in the entire country.
You could practically see Pritzker squirm in his seat. Here he was, governor of a state with an F-rated electoral map, trying to tell Texans how to run their elections. Illinois Democrats have twisted their districts into pretzels to keep power for decades. Yet Pritzker had the nerve to criticize other states.
This is classic Democrat behavior – do as I say, not as I do. Pritzker lives in a glass house but loves throwing stones at Republicans. He wants to fix everyone else’s problems while ignoring the mess in his own backyard. Illinois families are fleeing the state in record numbers, but he’s worried about Texas politics.
Finally, we saw a mainstream media host do their job. Welker didn’t just let Pritzker spout his talking points unchallenged. She held his feet to the fire and exposed his massive hypocrisy. This is what real journalism looks like, not the usual softball questions Democrats get.
The double standard is stunning but not surprising. Democrats always think rules don’t apply to them. They can gerrymander all they want in blue states like Illinois, New York, and California. But when Republicans do the same thing, suddenly it’s a threat to democracy.
American voters see right through this nonsense. They’re tired of wealthy politicians like Pritzker lecturing them while doing the exact same things they criticize. Working families want leaders who practice what they preach, not hypocrites who think they’re above the law.
It’s time to hold all politicians accountable, regardless of party. When Democrats like Pritzker get exposed for their hypocrisy, we need to remember it at election time. Real change comes when we stop letting these career politicians get away with their lies and double standards.
